A big congrats are in order for Shakira, who, after months of rumors, officially announced on Wednesday (September 19) that she and her boyfriend, FC Barcelona soccer player Gerard Piqué, are expecting their first child.
"As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby!," Shakira posted on her official website.
"At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in
our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the
next few days."
She continued, "This means I will not be able to
be a part of the iHeartRadio Music Festival ... I'd like to thank Clear
Channel and my fans for their constant love and understanding. Big
kiss!"
The iHeartRadio Music Festival is taking place this weekend in Las Vegas.
Shakira and Piqué met back in 2010 when he was featured in the music video for her South Africa World Cup theme song "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)." Shakira confirmed their relationship in March of 2011, posting a picture on Facebook of the two saying, "I present to you my sunshine" in Spanish.
The news comes on the same week that both Shakira and Usher will be replacing Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green on the next season of "The Voice."
"We
are thrilled to welcome Usher and Shakira to 'The Voice,' " NBC
Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in the release, which
explained that Cee Lo and Christina will only take season four off
before returning to the show. "The addition of these popular iconic
artists continues the tradition established by Christina, Cee Lo, Adam
and Blake. Doing two back-to-back cycles of this show requires a
tremendous amount of time, and we are happy to accommodate the
commitments made by Christina and Cee Lo."
Following "The Voice" announcement, Shakira tweeted,
"Thanks for your affectionate messages & good vibes! I'm so excited
to be a part of #TheVoice next to such talented colleagues. Shak"
