Rapper Mkongwe Nas Escoba hivi karibuni amezungumizia njia anayoitumia kumfanya abaki kuwa na maana halisi kwenye game baada ya kufanya kazi kwa muda mrefu takribani miaka ishirini hivi.

Nasiri Jones a.k.a Nas aliulizwa nini kinachoweza kumfanya mwana hip hop ama rapper kudumu kwenye muziki kama yeye, na hapo ndipo akaja na kanuni namba moja ya mafanikio katika rap game.

 

"Kanuni namba moja ni; huwezi kuwa fake. Kama wewe ni fake, utakuwa gimmick (kama kuwashika attention ya watu kwa muda bila kukamilisha kazi ipasavyo)na utakuwa unauza gimmick; gimmick kidogo inaruhusiwa kwa sababu hii ni burudani. Lakini kama utabase kwenye hiyo katika sehemu kubwa ya kazi zako, hautatoka kwa sababu kila siku ni adventure nyingine ngumu."

Hivi karibuni Nas aliongelea kuhusu mapinduzi ya muziki wake katika rap game ambayo haibadiliki.

"Nimekuwa nikiita kila kitu. Gangsta rap. Nimekuwa nikiita counscious rap. unajua eh, kila kitu. Yeyote anaejisikia kuiita vyovyote anavyotaka kuiita hiyo juu yake. Usinilaumu mimi, laumu nchi yetu ya kushangaza , America, na hata hivyo hauwezi kuilaumu America. Ni maisha, yalaumu maisha. Nazungumzia maisha, na nafanya muziki wa dunia nzima kwa kutumia style ya Marekani...na hicho ndicho nachofanya." Alifunguka Nas, na akamaliza kuwa "Najua kitu kimoja, Watu wanaweka lebel nyingi mno kwenye muziki."

Nas anaendea kufanya vizuri bado kwenye game japokuwa ni wa muda mrefu sana, na mara kwa mara amekuwa akiiitole maelezo hali hii, mwaka jana alifungua pia kuhusu u-relevance wa msanii.

Psy Plans To Teach Usher How To Dance 'Gangnam Style'

In just two short months, Korean pop star Psy has gone from a relative unknown in the United States to having the #1 song on iTunes with his massive hit "Gangnam Style." He has taken the nation by storm, acquiring a new legion of die-hard fans and some A-list admirers as well, even if he is unsure of who they are.
"I was at the VMA and I was sitting down at the chair and someone asked me 'Hey, how much your music video cost? Hey, who write that track?' and I said 'I wrote that track' and he said, 'Oh yea? Wow,' but I didn't recognize who he was," Psy recently told MTV News. "And suddenly when they announced, 'The winner is Drake' and then he stands up. 'Oh is that Drake?' So Drake asked me something and I was like 'Who is he? Am I nuts?' So after he came back I said 'Drake I'm so sorry."

Psy Recalls Meeting Drake At The VMAs, And Other Celebrities

Shortly after his appearance at the Video Music Awards, Psy made a stop at "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," where he taught the host and Britney Spears his signature dance moves. Psy admitted that that even though he's been making television appearances for years in Korea, this one in particular made him extremely nervous.
"At the 'Ellen' show at the back screen I was waiting alone and I can see them sitting Ellen and Britney and Simon [Cowell] so I was like, 'Wow' I've done this for 12 years, but suddenly I'm getting nervous," Psy said. "What am I doing I'm getting nervous in 12 years. I felt like the very first year in Korea."
And since then it seems like everyone wants to learn his inescapable galloping horse dance that he portrays in the "Gangnam Style" video. However, there is one person in particular Psy really wants to see "dressing classy and dancing cheesy."
"My manager, his name is Scooter Braun. He is a really good friend of Usher so when I was in L.A. Usher called Scooter Braun and we talked on the phone," Psy said. "I asked Usher, 'Hey Usher if we met sometime I want to teach you how to dance' and he says 'What? Me! Me? Usher' and he was laughing all over 'All right, teach me sometime.' "
Yet, the celebrity encounter that has Psy most excited is the possibility of meeting one of his favorite movie stars, Tom Cruise. Recently, Cruise tweeted about his obsession with "Gangnam Style" asking his followers if his "Tropic Thunder" character, Les Grossman, should learn the dance. Well, Tom, if you want Psy to teach you lesson, you may have to do something in return.
"I heard that Tom Cruise tweeted about me. He followed me. Tom Cruise, 'Mission Impossible.' Tom Cruise, 'Top Gun,' " Psy said. "So if I have a chance I would like to learn some English from Tom Cruise."

Would DMX Ever Work With Onetime Rival Jay-Z?

Jay-Z and Nas' bitter war back in the era of "Ether" stands as one of the most storied hip-hop beefs, but the Queensbridge rapper certainly wasn't the only one to trade barbs with the God MC. Despite collaborations on tracks like Hard Knock Life's "Money, Cash, Hoes," DMX was also at odds with Jay for some time back in the '90s.

During X's recent visit to "RapFix Live," host Sway Calloway played a clip of Irv Gotti explaining what started the beef between DMX and the Brooklyn rapper, before asking him to explain it from his own point of view. "[DMX] had a problem with Jay, and it all stemmed from that battle that's on film and backstage; you can see a piece of it," Irv explained, referencing the infamous battle that took place in a Bronx, New York, pool hall. "X hated Jay because it was the one battle that he said it wasn't absolutely sure in everyone's mind that he won. He said Jay did a punk move because after [X] spit his rhyme, Jay said something quickly into the mic then broke out."

Jay-Z And DMX 'Earned Each Other's Friendship'

Irv noted that Hov pulled a slick move, making his break while the crowd was still roaring for him. "Jay's smart, 'cause he [knew], 'This dude [was] gonna rhyme all night, and each rhyme [was] gonna get more disrespectful,' so he bounced. So Jay and X did not like each other — at all."
After watching the footage, DMX, never one to mince words, corroborated Irv's story. "Me and Jay had the battle issues," he said matter-of-factly, going on to explain that it was nothing personal, just a part of the game. "When you're playing another team, you're not gonna like them, but that doesn't mean that you want them dead or you mean any physical harm to them.
"It wasn't that type of thing," he continued. "I understood and embraced what rap is [or was]. I didn't like him because we battled, and that's all it was. I didn't mean him any harm — I didn't know him enough to not really like him, but I didn't want to be his friend."

X admitted that mutual parties tried to get them to resolve their issues, but at the time, he wasn't having it. Eventually, he came around, but they're still not buddies, by any means.
"It's by going through that, that when we finally came around to being cordial, came around to being cool, that we earned each other's friendship," the Yonkers rapper said, also commenting on their current relationship.
"I don't have a problem with him," he said after a long pause, "but we ain't high-fiving in the locker room or chest bumping."

One fan on Twitter then posed the ultimate question: Would DMX and Jay-Z ever put their differences behind them long enough to collaborate?
"Anything's possible," was X's response. "I won't be the one to say 'no' or stand on something ignorant like 'no I will never' — that doesn't make sense. I don't see it happening, but anything's possible."

Dr. Dre's Headphones Land Him Highest-Paid Rapper Title By Forbes

Diddy, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil Wayne also top magazine's 'Cash Kings 2012: Hip-Hop's Top 20 Earners' list.

 

 

Dr. Dre rocked Coachella with an all-star cast of collaborators past and present (and even deceased) but his long-awaited Detox has yet to fill his absence from the record shelves. Despite a recent LP release, Dre was still this year's highest-paid rapper.
How'd he do it? Beats by Dre, of course, which now accounts for more than half of the high-end headphone market. According to the brand-new list of hip-hop's highest-paid earners featured in Forbes magazine's September 24 issue, Beats by Dre was responsible for $100 million of Dre's pretax $110 million haul over the past year. The N.W.A. rapper/producer, who launched the careers of Snoop Dogg and Eminem, got into the speaker game at the urging of Interscope's Jimmy Iovine, who was one of the partners who benefited when handset maker HTC spent $300 million purchasing a 51 percent stake in Beats.

Dre managed to pass his peers like Diddy, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil Wayne, who rounded out the top five.
Like Dre, Diddy's annual payday had little to do with album sales or touring revenue. Most of his $45 million came from Diageo's Cîroc vodka, according to the Forbes report. More than half of Jay-Z's $38 million came from his pieces of the Brooklyn Mets, cosmetics company Carol's Daughter and other ventures. Jay helped Kanye make a bunch of his $35 million of course, thanks to the Watch the Throne album and tour. Tha Carter IV was a smash, but Wayne's cash from Trukfit (his clothing line) and his sponsorship deal with Mountain Dew certainly didn't hurt, either. Weezy pulled in a reported $27 million.

Young Money Entertainment and Cash Money Records stayed true to their names by landing a few more artists on the Forbes list, as well. Drake's $20.5 million was enough to put him in #6, with Cash Money co-founder Bryan "Birdman" Williams just behind at #7 with $20 million. The crew's own Nicki Minaj, the first ever female on MTV's Annual Hottest MC's list, was #8 with $15.5 million. For those keeping score, that's four slots in a row dominated by Young Money.
Eminem doesn't have any headphones, vodka or soda pop deals to deal with, but he still managed to make $15 million this year from his back catalog and shows. Last year, Marshall won a lawsuit against Universal Music Group involving royalties from digital sales of his music. As MTV's Rap Fix noted in a story, "Forbes magazine might have to make some room for Eminem," and indeed they did. Slim Shady was #9 on the Forbes list.

Dre wasn't the only rapper in the top 10 with headphones on the market. Soul, the headphone company launched by Ludacris, helped put him at the #10 spot with a $12 million take that also came courtesy of roles in "Fast Five" and "New Year's Eve," plus Conjure cognac and those smooth Radio Shack voiceovers.
The rest of the Top 20: Pitbull ($9.5 million); Rick Ross and Wiz Khalifia (tied with $9 million each); Snoop ($8.5 million); 50 Cent ($7.5 million); Swizz Beats, Pharrell Williams and Young Jeezy (tied with $7 million each); Mac Miller ($6.5 million); and Akon, Timbaland, Tech N9ne (tied with $6 million each).
Of course, all of the hip-hop entrepreneurs in Forbes' "Cash Kings 2012: Hip-Hop's Top 20 Earners" have some sort of history with the VMAs, as either performers, winners, presenters and/or spectators over the years. Tune in tomorrow to watch the music moguls do their thing!

Alicia Keys Unleashes Confident Girl On Fire Cover

'New Day' singer strikes a pose on black-and-white art for November 27 album.

Fans eagerly awaiting Alicia Keys' performance at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards now have something to help bide their time: the singer revealed the cover art for Girl On Fire, unveiled Thursday (August 23).


The picture for her fifth studio album shows Alicia rocking a sleek haircut and striking a confident pose — she means serious business. In June, Keys gave the public a taste of her new musical direction with the song, "New Day", an up-tempo track that was propelled by heavy drums. It was something that most of us are not used to hearing from Alicia, and that's exactly the way that she wants it.
"Girl On Fire is about finding your voice, about being unleashed and about trusting your instincts and trusting yourself," said Keys. "I can't wait to share it with the world."
Although she's experimenting sonically, Keys promises that her album (out November 27) will still feature her signature smooth, soulful sound. To help her with Girl on Fire, Keys enlisted longtime songwriting partner

Krucial Keys, Babyface, Jeff Bhasker, Gary Clarke Jr., and many others, including up-and-coming U.K. artists Emeli Sandé and Jamie xx. A full track listing for the album is due to be released shortly.
This is Keys' first album since 2009's The Element of Freedom, which sold over 4 million copies worldwide. In that time, she married hip-hop superstar producer Swizz Beatz in July 2010 and gave birth to her first child, a son named Egypt, in October of the same year.

Fans can expect to be seeing a lot of Alicia in the upcoming months as she embarks on a heavy promotional push for Girl on Fire. She will debut the first single off the album September 6 at the 2012 VMAs. The song is expected to be released on iTunes and radio two days before on September 4. Who else can wrangle T-Pain, Ludacris, Rick Ross and Snoop Dogg for "All I do is Win" or Lil Wayne and Drake for "I'm On One"? Khaled's latest single "I Wish You Would" pairs Rozay and Yeezy over a Hit-Boy track. While others may find difficulty in the politics of grouping such big name guests, the charismatic DJ does it with ease.
"First of all Kanye's my friend that I've known for a long time ... from my first album," he said. "He salutes my talents and I work with him in the studio a lot and Ross, you already know our grind and our story from day one."
Khaled and Kanye have worked together many times before, first on the DJ's 2006 "Grammy Family" track and then again two years later on "Go Hard." Khaled helped put together Yeezy's "Cold" single earlier this year, but "I Wish You Would" is different from all of their previous collaborations, this one has a harder edge. On it 'Ye rhymes aggressively about the frustrations of the hood, a far cry from all the regal talk he gave us on he and Jay-Z's 2011 masterpiece album Watch the Throne.
"When I put Ross and Kanye on a record, I did that because I know people can't get that and if they did get it, it wasn't a record like that," he said. "I wanted to put those two amazing mega stars on a record and talk that talk."

The lawsuits surrounding the infamous New York club brawl between Drake's and Chris Brown's crews continue to pour in. Now a male model who was at W.i.P. the night of the June 14 bottle-throwing fight is suing Drake and Breezy.

E! News obtained the court documents filed in Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday by Romain Julien. He is claiming that as a result of the brawl, he has suffered "severe personal injuries," including glass-lacerations and a cut to his right hand, which resulted in a severed tendon. Julien is also claiming he underwent surgery to repair the tendon and will require future medical attention and has limited use of his right arm.

Birdman Has Drake's Back

The news comes just one week after club owners filed a suit of their own against the two music stars. The suit alleges that both Drake and Brown "ordered security personnel, bodyguards, friends and entourage to join the fight, which erupted into a violent brawl on a massive scale."
Several victims have claimed injury as a result of the incident, which is said to have involved Drake and Chris 
Brown's respective entourages. NBA star Tony Parker filed a $20 million lawsuit against the club claiming that owners are responsible for a corneal laceration of his left eye. Parker, who played for the French national basketball team during this summer's Olympic games in London, had to wear a pair of protective goggles as a result of his injuries.
Neither musician nor their representatives have commented on the suit just yet, though Drake and Brown have maintained their innocence in the ordeal.

Nicki Minaj To Join 'American Idol'

Us Weekly reports the MC will join Mariah Carey on the panel; Minaj's rep would not comment to MTV News.

.The magazine is reporting that Minaj is close to inking a deal to serve as a judge on the upcoming 12th season of the show, citing a pair of unnamed sources, one of whom says Minaj is "100 percent confirmed." A second source also makes it seem like a deal is imminent, but added, "A few more slight things to sign off on, but it is happening."
In early July, Minaj's name was one of several linked to the show, along with Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry. A rep for Minaj had no comment on the Us report when contacted by MTV News, and a spokesperson for Fox could not be reached for comment by press time.

If the report is true, Minaj will become the second high-profile judge added to "Idol" in the past month. In late July, Mariah Carey confirmed that she'd be joining the show, a move many saw as a response to the hiring of Britney Spears as a judge on "Idol" competitor "The X Factor."

In recent months, "Idol" has reportedly been considering adding the likes of Nick Jonas or Pharrell Williams to the panel in an attempt to reboot the show following the departures of judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Lone holdover Randy Jackson will reportedly move to a "mentor" role on the upcoming season.

Rihanna 'Felt Stifled' By Def Jam's Pop-Princess Blueprint

 

'They had a brand, they had an idea of what they wanted me to be without figuring out who I was and then working with that,' singer said on 'Oprah's Next Chapter.'

Rihanna wasn't always a rebel, it's something that the Rated R singer developed over time. "I guess it started off really claustrophobic," the pop princess told Oprah Winfrey on her "Next Chapter," which aired Sunday night (August 19).

During her sit down with the media queen in her native Barbados, Rihanna opened up about her road to stardom and the hardships she had to overcome. Her volatile relationship with Chris Brown tops the list by far, but Rih's relationship with her label Def Jam wasn't so picture-perfect either. "I feel like I was really, really protected, really guarded with myself. I felt like they were giving me a blueprint," she said of the marketing department at the label where she has put out six platinum- and gold-selling albums.

After leaving Barbados as a teen to pursue a career in music, in 2005, Rihanna found herself in an audition for then-Def Jam president Jay-Z and former label head L.A. Reid. The audition led to a record deal, which in turn led to worldwide fame. Rihanna has since won numerous Grammys, American Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards and has broken a slew of Billboard chart records. But for the young singer, it all came at a price.

Though she is praised for #1 pop hits like "Umbrella," "Rude Boy" and "We Found Love," Rihanna is often criticized for her moves outside of the studio. Her 2007 album Good Girl Gone Bad seemed to serve as a precursor for what was to come. No longer a spotless, pop starlet who plays by the rules, Rihanna has emerged as a fiery heroine to rebellious girls everywhere. Whether she is tweeting racy bikini pics, calling out Dutch magazine editors or rolling weed at Coachella, Rihanna is clearly doing things her way. "I felt stifled because I don't even know who I am at 16 and 17 years old," she said about her early days. "I was uncomfortable with that. The only way I could do that was by bursting out of it."

Each of the 15 VMA categories carries its own prestige and distinction. But the VMA Best New Artist category is perhaps one of the night's most anticipated categories. The Best New Artist category represents a diverse roster of some of the best and brightest new faces and names to enter the musical landscape and pop culture conversation over the past year. To celebrate the artistic influence of this year's Best New Artist nominees on Buzzworthy, where we're committed to celebrating pop music, pop culture, and, of course, music fans, I asked five different young artists to pay homage to the 2012 Best New Artist nominees with an "inspiration illustration," to look at that musical artist and the impact of their art through another artist's eyes. (Yes, we're taking a break from animated GIFs for some real-deal art appreciation. We're almost grown-ups!)

Each of this year's Best New Artists has opened our minds (and, quite often, hearts) by writing a tribute to eternal youth (fun. and Janelle Monaé), writing an unforgettable (and unstoppably catchy) ode to first crushes (Carly Rae Jepsen), inciting boy band mania all over again (The Wanted and One Direction, of course), or by breathing new, poetic life into R&B (Frank Ocean). It may sound corny, but it's true -- how we as music fans experience music, videos, lyrics, and the visual images surrounding music creates a visceral, emotional bond that transcends music itself (I can't remember the last time a song truly transported and swept me away the way Frank Ocean's "Swim Good" did the first time I heard it). Essentially, this is an artist-on-artist series. Hopefully you'll enjoy seeing how five visual artists connected to and interpreted each of the 2012 MTV VMA Best New Artist nominees.
