'Zero Dark Thirty': The Story Behind The Real-Life CIA Agent
"No, I can't call her up and say, 'Hey, can I go undercover with you to see what it's like?' I don't think you understand undercover," Chastain told MTV News' Josh Horowitz while doing press for the film.
But the serious nature of the film required accuracy on Chastain's part, so she had to turn elsewhere for the truth about Maya. One indispensable resource was former journalist and "Zero Dark Thirty" screenwriter Mark Boal.
Of course, not every detail about the life of the CIA agent was privy to Chastain, who then was left to fill in the blanks herself. "Anything I could not discover from my research, I had to fill in the blank, but fill in the blank and stay true to who the idea that Maya was," she said. "I couldn't fill in the blanks with Jessica Chastain knowledge. 'She went to Julliard before the CIA.' "
Answering those questions in a way that stayed true to the actual person was paramount to Chastain's portrayal of Maya, even if that meant going against her own instincts.
"I think the whole point is that I'm playing a true person and this is exactly what she did. She didn't have a boyfriend. She didn't have the guy at home after she had a hard day, who is like 'Hey, babe. Let me make you dinner.' That didn't exist for Maya," Chastain said. "She, over a decade, kind of went down the rabbit hole, getting lost in her work, until finally at the end of the movie, [the pilot] says 'Where do you want to go?' She has no idea where she goes now. Who is she now? She's trained to be unemotional and analytically precise. I'm trying to be the exact opposite. I'm trained to be emotional and kind of a hot mess, so that was a bit of a stretch."

New Action-Packed Trailer for ‘Django Unchained’ Shows More DiCaprio and Gives First Look at Jonah Hill’s Character
The Weinstein Company
.
It looks like we’ve all been good little boys and girls, because Quentin Tarantino is giving us a great Christmas present this year with Django Unchained. The western tale of slavery, redemption, and bounty hunting has only had one trailer so far (aside from the stuff we saw at Comic-Con), but this new trailer shows off much more of the action as well as proving that Leonardo DiCaprio definitely has more work to do here than just a little cameo. Plus, there’s a bizarre appearance by Jonah Hill.

Selena Gomez Wanted To Invent 'Cool' Voice For 'Hotel Transylvania'
Selena Gomez spent years casting spells as the star of "The Wizards of Waverly Place" on Disney. And after taking a break from supernatural roles, the actress returns to those roots this week as a teen vampire in the new animated flick, "Hotel Transylvania."
And, she went into filming hoping she could dream up a new voice for the part, but was disappointed to find out that she would sound like herself in the family-friendly movie.
No, I attempted [a voice] and failed," she told MTV News during the Toronto International Film Festival, where she premiered the flick. "I tried when I got the script, I was like 'Oh maybe I can do something cool and different.' And I ended up going in, and they were like 'No, we like your voice best.' I was like 'Oh, all right'."
However, despite showing off a pretty impressive Scottish accent during the interview, she confessed, "Well, I don't think I can [do any voices]. That's the sad part."
Gomez joined the flick earlier this year; her role was originally intended for fellow former Disney star Miley Cyrus. In it, she plays Dracula's (Adam Sandler) teenage daughter. The film imagines the famed vamp as a hotel owner who caters to other mystical folks. When the home away from home is discovered by a human boy, who also happens to fall for Gomez's Mavis, well it has Dracula freaking out a little bit.
It opens on Friday. It also stars Andy Samberg, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade, Cee Lo Green and Jon Lovitz.

James Cameron Reveals 'Avatar 4' Plans As A Prequel
'It goes back to the early expeditions of Pandora and kind of what went wrong with the humans,' Cameron tells MTV of his 'Avatar 4' vision.
James Cameron Is 'Still Writing' 'Avatar'
It was recently reported, via commentary from producer Jon Landau, that Cameron and company will only be shooting a second and third film back-to-back, and not a fourth as was originally rumored. That's not to say that a fourth film isn't going to happen, however, especially if Cameron's creative plans for the plot of said film come to fruition.
"I have an idea for a fourth," Cameron told MTV News when we caught up with him at a press event for "Titanic." (A new collector's edition of the record-breaking movie hits home video on September 10.) "I haven't really put pen to paper on it, but basically it goes back to the early expeditions of Pandora, and kind of what went wrong with the humans and the Na'vi and what that was like to be an explorer and living in that world."
"Because when we drop in, even in the first film in 'Avatar 1,' as it will be known in the future, we're dropping into a process that's 35 years in to a whole colonization," Cameron continued of his interest in an "Avatar" prequel. "That will complete an arc and if that leads into more, we'll start, not imitating 'Star Wars,' but it's a logical thing to do because we'll have completed the thematic arc by the end of three. The only thing left to do is go back to see what it was like on those first expeditions and create some new characters that then become legacy characters in later films. It's a plan."
Before he can get to "Avatar 4," however, Cameron needs to shoot the next two films in the series. At the moment, he and his team are "working on it," trying to simplify the process of creating the visually complex Pandora.
"We've spent two years refining the whole pipeline," said the filmmaker. "It was a hideously complex process to make that film and a lot has been said about that, but we don't want it to be done in the same prototypical way as the first one, we want it to be a much smoother workflow just for creativity reasons."
That "creativity" factor isn't something to be ignored, either. Cameron said he's still working on the story for the next two "Avatar" films, a daunting process "because I'm writing two scripts together as one big thing."
"You know, Peter Jackson had it easy, he already had the books," he cracked. "He had the books. Now if I had a time machine I could go forward and watch the movies and then come back, but I don't!"

'The Master' Director Explains Film's Connection To Scientology
Director reveals that Philip Seymour Hoffman's character is based on L. Ron Hubbard, but not the organization itself.
While most people associated with the movie, including Anderson himself, have tried to distance "The Master" from the Scientology connection since the promotional tour started at the Venice press conference (via The Washington Post), the writer-director clarified where the inspiration for his film stands in relation to L. Ron Hubbard and the controversial religion.
For the most part, Anderson repeated what he's already stated in the handful of interviews he's given for "The Master," that the film isn't so much about the religion; it just uses a similar organization to frame the story. "I really don't know a whole hell of a lot about Scientology, particularly now," he said. "But I do know a lot about the beginning of the movement and it inspired me to use it as a backdrop for these characters."
Further downplaying the connection, Anderson said that Hubbard being the basis for Philip Seymour Hoffman's Lancaster Dodd "is not an elephant in the room."
"The Master" tells the story of two men, Hoffman's Dodd, a leader of a Scientology-like organization, and Freddie Quell, a wayward sailor played by Joaquin Phoenix, who finds himself spiritually lost after World War II. Anderson emphasized that the story focuses primarily on these two men and the bond they form.
Also addressed at the press conference was Anderson's relationship with perhaps the most famous Scientologist, Tom Cruise, whom he directed in "Magnolia." Anderson screened the film for Cruise, but wouldn't comment further on the actor's reaction to "The Master." "We are still friends," Anderson said. "I showed him the film and the rest is between us."

Michael Clarke Duncan Dead At 54
Oscar-nominated 'Green Mile' actor died in a Los Angeles hospital on Monday.
Duncan's publicist, Joy Fehily, released a statement from Clarke's fiancée, reality star Omarosa Manigault, confirming that the 54-year-old actor died in an L.A.-area hospital, according to the Wrap. The "Green Mile" actor's death came after nearly two months of treatment in the wake of his cardiac arrest earlier this summer.
News of Duncan's death broke on Labor Day afternoon, and "RIP Michael Clarke Duncan" and "Green Mile" instantly became Twitter trending topics as numerous fans expressed their sadness upon learning the news.
The Chicago-born actor is perhaps best-known for his portrayal of gentle giant/ mystic healer John Coffey in 1999's "The Green Mile," a critically praised performance for which he received an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. After his breakout role, Duncan parlayed his popularity into a string of memorable roles in films like "Sin City," "Planet of the Apes," "Armageddon, "The Whole Nine Yards" and "Talladega Nights: the Ballad of Ricky Bobby."
When MTV News caught up with him a few years ago, the actor expressed interest in making "Sin City 2" — if it ever got off the ground.
"I'd love to come back as Manute," he said in 2009. Working with Robert Rodriquez was really cool. He's the type of director that goes around playing his guitar all day, he doesn't holler, he doesn't fuss, he doesn't fight. He's a real mellow director."
More recently, Duncan voiced the character of Kilowog in 2011's "Green Lantern."

Nonini amuunga mkono mteja aliyewaponda DSTV kwa kurudiarudia filamu
This is an open letter to DSTV KENYA/ MULTI-CHOICE, BY
@Ngash Mtrue on FAcebook imenimaliza! Share if u support This...... DStv Kenya
I'm writing this as an esteemed client for the last couple
of years and i wish to state that the quality of programmes are way below my
expectations. You have been repeating movies and documentaries at an amazing
rate and still charging us exorbitant fees. Last night on M-net Action, Con-Air
was being screened for the 12th time in 40 days!!!!! I look at the comedy
channel and there's nothing to smile about.
You are screening comedies that
were the in thing in the early 90's, way before Tupac's death!!! While i do
understand that repetitions are a must in the pay tv business, you have taken
to a whole new level. Matter of fact, apart from Super sport, Espn. Bbc
knowledge and the discoveries channels, everything else borders a fraud, I
honestly cant wait for my subscription to expire so that i can join either Zuku
or Starcom.
Zuku are offering more channels than you, internet connection and a
land line at a cheaper rate than your premium package. Starcom on the other
hand are screening updated reality Tv programmes like the Kardashians, amazing
race etc. They are also screening the latest flicks like Spider man and Bat man
while you are busy feeding us Con-Air and Walker, the Texas ranger! Come on,
you do realize that you are milking us dry and giving us substandard
programmes. Could you please introduce a sports only package, Super sports and
ESPN or i jump ship.
I have figured that i can get quality pay tv from starcom
for 500kshs per month and a one time connection fee of 4000 which i shall raise
from the sale of my DSTV dish as scrap metal. Then, i shall be watching the
EPL/La Liga games at my local pub where even if i consume 4 beers per game
every weekend, it will be way below the 6900kshs you are charging me for
substandard programmes and out dated movies. I couldn't believe my eyes when i
saw Chuck Norris on my screen! Over to you DStv Kenya.

Angelina Jolie's Daughter Vivienne To Make Movie Debut In 'Maleficent'
4-year-old will play the child version of Princess Aurora opposite her mother.
As if we weren't already excited to see Angelina Jolie vamping it up as evil queen Maleficent in Disney's new spin on the classic story of Sleeping Beauty, the studio announced Wednesday (August 22) that Jolie's 4-year-old daughter Vivienne will be making her big-screen debut in the live-action adventure."The Walt Disney Studios confirmed today that Angelina Jolie's daughter Vivienne will play a minor role as the child version of Princess Aurora opposite her mother in 'Maleficent' which hits theatres March 2014," the studio announced via a written statement. "The live-action film explores the origins of Disney's most iconic villain, Maleficent, and what led her to curse Princess Aurora in Disney's animated classic 'Sleeping Beauty.' "
No word on how much screen time the role will warrant for Vivienne, or if her twin brother Knox will also appear in the film, but we'll likely see her in a flashback sequence or in "growing-up scenes" with her fairy guardians. The teenage version of Aurora will be played by Elle Fanning ("Super 8," "We Bought a Zoo").
Besides one stunning photo released of Jolie as Maleficent, we don't know much about her role except for the fact that she's been looking forward to it for a long time.
"I loved her when I was a little girl, she was my favorite," Jolie told MTV News in July 2010, adding that the role would be a great opportunity.
"Maleficent" will be Jolie's first acting gig in two years and also includes the acting talents of Sharlto Copley, Juno Temple, Miranda Richardson and Imelda Staunton.

Gerard Butler 'Not Doing' The '300' Sequel
' I wish them the best,' Butler tells MTV News of returning for '300: Battle of Artemisia.'
The last time we checked in on the latest developments with the "300" sequel, Warner Bros. ended the "is this movie ever happening?" debate by finally announcing that "300: Battle of Artemisia" will hit theaters on August 2, 2013.That leaves really only one lingering question: What about Gerard Butler? Since the actor was pretty much at the center of the original film in the role of King Leonidas, it's only right to wonder where he might fit in a sequel. Butler has always maintained that he'd be interested in a "300" follow-up — if the timing and the script were right.
But unfortunately, MTV News can now confirm that Butler will not be making an appearance as Leonidas, after all.
"Oh, yeah, I'm not doing it," Butler told us when we caught up with him for early scoop on his surfing drama "Chasing Mavericks" and possible involvement in "Battle for Artemisia."
"They're filming [the '300' sequel] right now. I wish them the best, but it didn't [work out]. It wasn't really my thing."
"Battle for Artemisia" is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel "Xerxes" and will revolve around the Persian leader's (Rodrigo Santoro) struggle to become a god, as well as his battles with Greek warlord Themistocles (Sullivan Stapleton) and Artemesia (Eva Green), all of whom are based on actual historical figures. We're partial to Green's ballsy and badass Artemesia because she took over ruling duties for her husband after his death and went on to command an entire armada.
In the meantime, fill your Gerard Butler action-movie void by checking him out hanging 10 in "Chasing Mavericks," opening October 26.

Director Tony Scott Dies In An Apparent Suicide
Tony Scott, brother of Ridley Scott and director of such action classics as "Top Gun" and "Crimson Tide," died yesterday (August 19) after an apparent suicide. Scott reportedly jumped from a suspension near San Pedro, California. He was 68 years-old.
The LAPD told Deadline that they received a 911 call at 12:35 p.m. about a man parking his car in an eastbound lane of the Vincent Thomas Bridge, scaling a fence, and leaping off the bridge "without hesitation."
It was also reported that Scott left a suicide note in his parked car.
Scott had been developing a "Top Gun" sequel with the original's star Tom Cruise and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
..................................................................................................................................................................
This past weekend, a bunch of action legends took on a newcomer, and experience won handedly. "The Expendables 2" took out last weekend's champion, "The Bourne Legacy," in a total knockout. The Sylvester Stallone-led action all-star meet-up took in $28.7 million, significantly below the original, which bowed with a $34.8 million debut back in 2010.
"The Bourne Legacy" continued to perform moderately well, adding $17 million to its two week total, which now sits at just under $70 million.
The rest of the weekend's new films were interspersed throughout the top ten, alternating with older releases. "ParaNorman" debuted in third with $14 million, and "Sparkle," Whitney Houston's final film, opened to $12 million, taking fifth place.
