Manchester United are reportedly lining up a swap offer for long term target Wesley Sneijder as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to bring in one more signing this summer. The Old Trafford boss is ready to use winger Nani in an exchange deal that he hopes will persuade Inter Milan boss Andrea Stramaccioni to sell the Dutch playmaker.
Ferguson has been chasing the 28 year old Inter man for the best part of 18 months and will now make a hopeful advance in the knowledge that the San Siro side appear to be moving towards a more youthful set-up and could consider the time right to weigh up decent offers for the former Ajax and Real Madrid midfielder.
Inter Milan have experienced two lean years following their treble triumph of 2009/10 and the absence of Champions League football this term could lead Sneijder to be tempted to leave the Nerazzurri.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been looking to bring in a creative midfielder and had moved close to signing young Brazilian Lucas Moura before the teenager opted instead to move to PSG after the French club had outbid Man United.
The Scot has brought in Robin Van Persie to boost the club’s attack but is now looking for a player who can help provide the ammunition and form a solid link between the midfield players and the club’s striking threat.
Sneijder saw his Inter Milan side slump to a sixth place finish last term, falling some 26 points off the top of the table, and may well be open to a move to the Premier League side who have pursued him for such a lengthy period.
There has been a great deal of speculation about the future of Man United winger Nani, who may see his spot in the first team picture compromised by the arrival of Shinji Kagawa. The Portuguese international also faces competition from the likes of Luis Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and England international Danny Welbeck, who may well be considered more effective in a wide attacking role.
The 25 year old has been locked in contract talks with Man United for weeks and has been linked with interest from both PSG and Zenit St Petersburg but would probably be amenable to a move to the Serie A giants if he were indeed to make a Man United exit.
