'Stars Wars VII' To Be Written By 'Toy Story 3'

Now that "Star Wars" fans have had some time to digest the news that a new "Star Wars" trilogy is on the way, it's time for another round of analysis and reactions with new rumors that "Star Wars Episode VII" has found its screenwriter.
According to a report from New York magazine's Vulture blog, Oscar-winning scribe Michael Arndt might have the job. Vulture cites key insiders who claim the "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Toy Story 3" writer has written "a 40- to 50-page treatment for the film," and if he's not the writer of the film he will at last be one of the writers on the Disney/Lucasfilm project, currently scheduled to begin shooting in 2014. Meanwhile Deadline reports that Arndt has written treatments for not one, but all three new "Star Wars" films.

Arndt is no stranger to writing blockbuster and event scripts: He penned "Hunger Games: Catching Fire," as well as Tom Cruise's futuristic adventure "Oblivion." Also working to Arndt's advantage is the fact that he already has a close working relationship with Disney via "Toy Story 3" and his screenplay for Pixar's untitled movie by "Up" director Pete Docter. Not only that, but Vulture's report highlights Arndt's deep appreciation for and knowledge of George Lucas' complicated and beloved "Star Wars" world, in that he has referenced the enduring appeal of "Star Wars" in multiple lectures on the art of storytelling.
In addition to the news of Arndt as a potential screenwriter for "Episode VII," his 40-page treatment is rumored to be gracing the desks of A-list sci-fi/fantasy-inclined directors like Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams and Brad Bird ("Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," "The Incredibles"). There has been no official word from Arndt's camp, and Lucasfilm declined comment on the story.
"Episode VII" is set to be released in 2015, and no matter what new faces and characters are introduced in the new film, its original stars, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, have all expressed interest in returning to their iconic characters.

8 Bizarre Tentacled Snakes Born at Zoo.

 

For the first time in more than a decade, a group of tentacled snakes was born at the Smithsonian's National Zoo.

The eight baby snakes, which sport little feelers on their noses, were born Oct. 21 after four years of unsuccessful breeding attempts, the zoo announced Thursday (Nov. 8).

The unusual aquatic species from Southeast Asia is not endangered, but researchers say it's poorly understood. The creatures, referred to as Erpeton tentaculatus in the scientific community, are relatively small, growing to about 20-35 inches (50-90 centimeters) in length, and they're the only snakes with two short tentacles on their snouts, which allow the reptiles to sense vibrations from fish that swim by.

Tentacled snakes spend their lives in water and use their tails to steady themselves as they wait to ambush their prey. Recent research has focused on how the snakes use their sharp hunting skills to scare fish right into their mouths. A study detailed in the journal PLoS ONE in 2010 showed that the adept predators have evolved a mechanism to capture spooked prey that end up parallel to their heads instead of in front of the snake's open jaws. Apparently, their nervous systems allow them to predict where a fish prey will end up when startled.

The tentacled snakes also develop at an astonishingly fast rate, which staff at the zoo in Washington, D.C., witnessed firsthand.

"Within a few hours of being born, the snakes were already acting like adults," Matt Evans, a keeper at the Smithsonian's Reptile Discovery Center, said in a statement. "Instincts took over and they were hunting. We don't know much about this cryptic species, but we're already learning so much just watching them grow."

The snake babies will likely be sent to other zoos when they get older, Smithsonian officials said. Four adult tentacled snakes, meanwhile, are on display at the zoo's Reptile Discovery Center.

Justin Bieber To Lend A Hand To Hurricane Sandy Recovery

 
Justin Bieber already donates $1 of every ticket sold on his Believe tour to charity, and now, he's decided to direct the proceeds from four New York-area shows to the ongoing recovery effort in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
"After talking with the team, I am proud to announce that for the four NYC area shows — the Jersey show, the Brooklyn show and two [Madison Square Garden shows], we are going to donate $1 to Hurricane Sandy relief," Bieber wrote on his Facebook page Thursday (November 8). "Thanks for helping us. #GIVEBACK."

Those shows include a November 9 concert at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, a November 12 show at Brooklyn's Barclay's Center and his two-night stand at the Garden, set for November 28-29.

Bieber is just the latest star to lend a hand to victims of Sandy. Earlier this week, Lady Gaga donated $1 million to the Red Cross recovery effort, and last week, Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera and Billy Joel were just some of the musicians who performed on an NBC telethon that raised $23 million for the Red Cross.

And the stars of MTV's "Jersey Shore" are getting in on the act, too. On November 15, they'll team up with Architecture for Humanity on "Restore The Shore," a live special that will ask viewers to contribute to the restoration and rebuilding of Seaside Heights, the show's home base. The show will bring together the cast, as well as other celebrity guests, in MTV's Times Square studio, and will air on the channel.

Barack Obama says: 'Best is yet to come'

 

US President Barack Obama has pledged "the best is yet to come", after a decisive re-election victory over Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

After a hard-fought campaign which highlighted America's political divide, Mr Obama pledged, as he did four years ago, to work with his opponents.
Mr Romney echoed that call for unity as he graciously admitted defeat.
Voters also left the Democrats in charge of the Senate and Republicans leading the House of Representatives.
In the electoral college, the state-by-state tally that determines US presidential elections, Mr Obama has won 303 electoral votes to Mr Romney's 206.
